Summary, etc. The two volumes bring together 78 research papers, specially prepared by Indian scholars on the occasion of the South Asian Regional Conference on "Population and Development" and IUSSP's 21st International Population Conference (New Delhi, 20-27 September, 1989).
The multi-disciplinary nature of Population Studies is reflected in the wide range of topics covered by these two volumes. These include mathematical models in Demography, analyses of nuptiality, fertility, mortality and migration, demographic data base with particular reference to the 1991 Census of India, a wide range of micro level studies conducted in difference parts of India as well as topics like Tribal Demography, Historical Demography and Demography of Language and Religion.

The contributors to these volumes include young scholars as well as senior scholars in the fields of Anthropology, Demography, Economics, Economic History, Linguistics, Management, Medical Sciences, Nutrition, Sociology, Statistics and allied subjects.
The overriding concern in these papers is for a better understanding of the population transition of India. These volumes reflect the modest contribution of IASP to the International Conference of IUSSP and pave the way for a sustained scientific collaboration between IASP and IUSSP.
