Summary, etc. The Muslims possess a distinct and
impressive identity in the variegated
milieu of social and national life of India.
Though the community
has undergone vicissitudes of an
thinkable dimensions, yet so deep
rooted are its traditions and culture
that there has been an uninterrupted
continuity in their march ahead. There
has never been a dearth of thinkers and
writers who have thought and written
almost on every aspect of Muslim life
in India. A galaxy of great and glorious
Muslim men adorns the annals of
India. Their contributions to the free-
dom struggle has never been less than
anyone else. In post-independence years,
the faith of the Muslims in their
Indianness has helped them to over-
come the harrowing experience during
the twilight of the partition days. A
lot of literature on the Muslims of
India is flowing every year in the form
of news items, general articles, pam-
phlets, books and research theses and
there is always an urgent need to
organise this information for fruitful
utilisation. The present bibliography
covers the publications, theses from
the earliest and articles published
between 1980-1987 on all aspects of
Muslims in India-their leaders, their
religion, their education, their institu-
tions, their politics, their personal laws,
their customs and lastly the Hindu-
Muslim relations. The information con-
tained in over 3000 bibliographical
entries in the present work has been
distilled from about 150 journals and
newspapers, about 500 books and about
100 research theses. The information
about research theses is not only from
the universities in India but also from
the universities abroad-Great Britain,
USA and other countries.
