Summary, etc. The present volume offers a micro analysis of the problem of rural poverty, unemployment, and dispari ties of wealth and income due to un even distribution of means of produc tion. It reveals the inequitous social and economic structure based on caste and landownership. Empirical eviden ces prove that the existing strategy of development and its instruments of implementation and administration are unsuitable which explains the failure of various schemes and programmes at micro level. Democratic methods are not relied upon and hence, the cen tralisation of power and decision mak ing processes leading to alienation of the people and consequent tension, conflict and disharmony in every walk of life.<br/><br/>The author in this authenticated and investigative study calls for the proper understanding of the basic issues which are important for determination of priorities and choice of development strategy for assuring justice, socio economic and distributive, to the people Organic structure conducive to deve lopment, effective responsibility and proper means of development are essential in a democratic structure. Similarly, democratic social structure, free initiative, dynamic civic conscious ness for national progress are internal and external needs of development. Considering all the objective condi tions of the present situation of the people and their economy, the develop ment of the nation can only be attained when economic programme is predi cted upon a scale of priorities in tune with the different levels of possibilities offered by the various sectors of the country.
