| Summary, etc. | The present work is born out of the conviction that what India needs today is a set of strategies, which are consistent set of policies, and that there is an urgent need for the same in Indian Planning. This strong conviction has propelled the author design the present work which has the benefit of contributions by some of the most eminent economists and economic administrators of India who also happen to be admirers of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's contributions to India's economic planning and policy. Her major contribution to Indian economic development was in the field of social justice to which she gave a new and vigorous thrust during her Prime Ministership, adding a visible content to the doctrine of economic growth with social justice.<br/><br/>India has now started making rapid strides towards the 21st century. It is against this background that India's economic strategies from now onwards to A.D. 2000 have to be viewed. Development is a dynamic process, and strategies for development cannot be static. The very process of development brings about changes which open up new opportunities and also give rise to fresh challenges.<br/><br/>It is hoped that this volume which presents strategies relating to crucial spheres of India's economic development will to be a most important contribution in its field and will be welcomed by scholars and administrators in India and abroad. |
