520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This book is the product of several hands but is a collective statement. Early drafts of each of the chapters were written by individuals, and then amended in a process of extended criticism. The authors responsible for the text at this stage were John Barber, Pat Bateson, Robert Hinde, Ralph! Lapwood, Gwyn Prins, and Jay Winter. However, they would not have been able to complete the work without the contributions of other authors who drafted sections based upon their specialized knowledge. These authors were Andrew Collins, John Griffiths, Martin Ryle, and John Wells. Stan Norris read and criticized the entire manuscript, and the authors are much indebted to him, and also to Christopher Cornford for drawing Figure 8. Nor could we have managed without the research assistance which we received throughout the project from Christopher Hus bands and Marian Sugden, who investigated and documented specific topics as the need arose. Marian Sugden also prepared the index and coordinated a team of undergraduate and postgraduate researchers. The authors' debt to her is very great. Among the researchers, in particular, Rob Westaway made fundamental contributions to Appendix A1.
