Summary, etc. There are very few questions within the whole sphere of Indian sociology which present more difficulty than those connected with the origin of Castes. The origin and development of castes in India is such a complex and fascinating subject that a number of scholars have gone deep into the subject. Sterility in the historic muse of Indian castes in general and Rajpoot tribes in particular lead to a greater disappointment.

The present masterly work by C. T. Metclfe so far differs from any pre vious account of the races of Rajpootana that, it attempts to supply in detail the information regarding the origin and development of RAJPOOT TRIBES from the vedic times and its relevence to the laws of manu. The learned author gives us a thorough and complete picture of all the tribes and castes inhabiting Rajpootana, with their customs, manners, marriage and religious and institutions. other

The present work becomes all the more interesting and important as the castes in India is undergoing a process of transition at present and it will be of immense interest to the Ethnologists, Anthropologists, Socio logists and students of popular and contemporary religion.

The publishers feel pleasure in issu ing yet another monumental work which is in two volumes and a masterpiece in the field of socio anthropology keeping in mind the comprehensiveness and diversity of the contents of the book.

Yet another volume to the already monumental series of The Native Races of India. With the reprint of this work a new dimension is added to the aims of continuing programme in this neglected area of research and study.
