| Summary, etc. | Banks play an important role in shaping the economic destiny of a nation. After collecting savings of society in the form of deposits they divert them not only to 'profitable channels' but also in 'productive outlets'.<br/><br/>The year 1949 marks the beginning of a revolution in the history of Indian banking when the Banking Regulation Act was framed, the RBI was transferred into public ownership for its more responsible role in the planned economy of the country, and the Indian rupee was devalued along with other curren cies of the world.<br/><br/>To seek a scientific approach in the treatment of the subject the Study has been aimed at examining developments in the Indian banking from three angles: (a) structural or institutional; (b) operational or functional; (c) pro motional and developmental,<br/><br/>An attempt has been made in this book to evaluate how far the banking system of the country responded effec tively to the regulatory measures of banking legislation, and how far the system acted to the advice, guidance. and direction of the RBI, so as to be a fit agency for discharging its duties and responsibilities in the planned economy of India. |
