520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. In this volume, the author has tried an objective analysis of the economic reforms in India and their impact on overall GDP growth as well as the other major areas of the Indian economy: employment, poverty reduction, labour, agriculture, industry, PSUs, privatisation and disinvestment, WPI and CPI, foreign trade, FDI flows, regional disparities, social infrastructure and human development, etc.

After critically examining the present economic situation in India, the author goes on to discuss the future phase, i.e. the second generation reforms. He calls for changing growth strategy, keeping in view the crucial parameters like poverty reduction, social sector, fiscal situation, etc. His assertion is that the second-generation reforms should aim at growth with social justice. They should take up programmes for enlarging employment, reducing poverty and building capabilities of the poor. The growth strategy, the book underlines, will have to be altered suitably to meet this social objective.
