Summary, etc. Great lives spread an aura and fragrance which outlive their earthly sojourn. They know that nothing worthwhile is achieved without character and that all worldly possessions are merely wayside stops in the exciting journey of the exploration of the higher dimensions of the human personality. They belong to a constellation and are a part of a legacy and heritage. Acharya Durga Das Basu is a shining star in this constellation. His whole life and career was a preparation for the great task of constitutional exposition and was indeed an offering at the altar of constitutionalism. Durga Das Basu was a legal legend. His contribution to the development of constitutionalism in India is indeed awesome.

The only foot prints that remain on the sands of time and are worth leaving are those that are formed and grow out of a man's competence and character. All outward embellishments are grounded in the weakness of human nature. No man of vision attaches importance to them. Basu knew this full well and lived accordingly. His life and work bear testimony to the ideal of simple living and high thinking.
