Summary, etc. In the second edition of Immigration Law the author provides an overview of the basic principles of nationality law and immigration law and policy, placed in their historical, political and administrative contexts.

The text of this edition has been substantially rewritten and its length increased considerably. There have been many important develop ments in this area since the first edition appeared: new chapters on nationality and immigration law and on illegal immigrants have been added to take account of the British Nationality Act 1981 and the decisions of the courts, including the reversal by the House of Lords in Khawaja of its previous controversial decision in Zamir. A new chapter has been added to consider the role of the courts in the area of immigration and the rights afforded to immigrants by legislation and judicial decisions. The book takes account of the Immigration Rules that took effect in February of this year, including the twists and turns in

the treatment of foreign husbands and fiancés. Immigration continues to be a most topical and sensitive area,

providing the courts and the legal system with many complex problems. The book also presents the regulation of immigration as a case study in contemporary English public law. This new edition of Immigration Law will be warmly welcomed by all those involved in the field, whether as teachers, students, or practitioners, and by others broadly interested in public law.
