Summary, etc. | The present study examines income differentials in the Soviet Union by making extensive use of the source material available in the Russian language. It analyses the principles of wage and salary determination in the Soviet Union; incomes of individuals; income through illegal means; the sector-wise income. differentials in the economy; categorization of workers; intra-industry differentiation; income differentiation according to sex; inter-regional income differentiation; the purpose, role, and significance of "social consumption funds"; and sociogical implications of income differentials, such as social stratification in Soviet society. and the impact on the consumption pattern and the standard of living of people. It also briefly discusses the problem of class on the basis of the data analysed in the book and focuses attention on what developing countries like India can learn from the Soviet experience, so that they may adopt an income policy (and also price policy) which not only speeds up their industrial and agricultural development but also ensures an equitable distribution of income. There are as many as forty-three tables and three appendices, and these are invaluable to students of soviet economics. |
