Summary, etc. This narrative account of world history since 1914 is set within an analytical framework of the relations between and among the major nations of the world. The author incorporates the most current scholarship in the history of international relations in a format that is genuinely global in scale. The emerging theme is the competition among the great powers for control of the world's resources, terri tories, and populations. Keylor shows the inevitable interdependence of the mili tary, political, and economic structures of the various regions of the world.

A prologue sets international relations in context at the start of the century, and is followed by three major sections on the era of the two world wars, the "Cold War," and the period since the beginning of détente. Keylor provides a particularly incisive analysis of the nuclear question and Soviet-American policies on arms control. Extensive treatment is devoted to Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and other regions of the non-Western world. International economic relations and stra tegic issues, such as the impact of techno logical innovations on the arms race, are examined in detail.
