Summary, etc. | The present book is both informative and educative for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. It is informative, because it gives a detailed account of their history. It is educative, because it inspires them to think in new terms so that they can create a new culture and society. Let them, there fore, have a slogan now: Unite the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes of India; they will lose nothing but the chains of caste and untouchability. The whole of their life should now proceed along this great line of action-from old to new, from resolution to revolution.

Mr. Sagar's book is not a mere academic discussion of Hinduism. His description of various practices, which are irrationally essential to Hindu Religion, is based on observation and personal experience. The author takes the reader through the various aspects of history and acquaints him with the real problems of untouchables. Though the Indian Society has. changed considerably in its outward aspects, yet there has not been any great change in the inner mental side of Hindus. The old forces of caste and untouchability still exist almost in all parts of this land. They are doing greater harm to this nation. I hope a study like this will benefit the rising generation. |
