Summary, etc. The story of the construction of the road might also refer to the experience of many communities, but we have had in mind în par ticular a project carried out by the Division of Community Educa tion in Puerto Rico.

The chapter about the family chicken farms is based on the ex perience of the Regional Center for Fundamental Education and Community Development in Latin America (CREFAL), in Patz cuaro, Mexico.

The chapters concerned with improvement of education, the home, housekeeping, and the establishment of a community work shop, have as their basis only observations and recommendations of the author which have not yet been put into practice in any

community. The idea for this story of Huagrapampa came as a result of the author's search for a way to express his opinions about the con cept of community development, its scope and content, in a simple form which might be useful not only for specialists but for the general public as well. If those who are interested in improving living conditions among the rural population of the world, and especially of the Andean region in Latin America, find in these pages some inspiration, guid ance, or help in their work, the author will be well satisfied and will feel that his efforts have been amply rewarded.
