Non-Alignment : Search for a Destination - Calcutta Naya Prokash 1979 - 208 p.

The birth of non-alignment move ment on an international scale took place in Colombo when 25 years ago the "Colombo Powers' was set up by five independent countries of South and South-East Asia. The exigencies of the time called for some international movement to cut through military alliances which were forged in Asia by the United States with the bandwagonners of the Western bloc following its leadership. So a beginning was made to sow the seeds of non alignment movement on an inter national scale. The Bandung Conference was planned to widen the movement to cover Asia and Africa. Finally the non-alignment movement was openly inaugurated in Belgrade with Tino, Nasser and Nehru Irading it. And today 88 countries, more than two-third population of the world, are members of this movement.

The author was an international correspondent at Colombo. He got personally involved at the very beginning to set up the stage for an international movement. The book is partly a memoir of the author uncovering the behind-the scene activities which led to the birth of Colombo Powers the beginning of non-alignment move ment on an international scale, and partly the record of further develop ments and events in world situations and the progress of non-alignment movement up to the middle of 1979.
