This volume brings together leading economists in the United Kingdom to address the issue of the sustainable use of the natural environment. The result is a set of original essays which reappraise the "no growth" debate, investigate the new environmental ethic being built on the concept of sustainable development, look at the way in which projects with major environmental consequences should be evaluated, and ask how future generations are to be represented in economic evaluation. The editors also include a specially invited essay by Herman Daly on the relevance of economic growth. All the essays are in memory of Richard Lecomber, whose work in the field of resource economics is well known and who died tragically in 1984.
