Alternatives in rural development - New Delhi Sterling Publishing 1990 - 414p.

This publication is devoted to evaluating the impact of the various rural development programmes undertaken in India with a view to drawing lessons from past experience and formulating strategies to achieve better results in the future. The programmes studied include those for poverty removal, development of agriculture, rural industries through the application of modern technology, sericulture, forest produce, and energy sources. The contribution of various institutional approaches, including cooperatives, is critically examined and the Gandhian and Chinese models elaborately discussed.
The book comprises papers presented at a seminar on Alternatives in Rural Development held some time ago and its proceedings. Nearly fifty experienced researchers and social scientists participated in the seminar.
