Agrarian structure and peasant revolt in India/ edited by Amit Kumar Gupta
"Gupta, Amit Kumar (ed.)"
Agrarian structure and peasant revolt in India/ edited by Amit Kumar Gupta - New Delhi Criterion Publications 1986 - 234p.
The author of this volume has tried to correlate the theoretical and empirical works together on the Agrarian issue and has edited twelve scholarly papers dealing with crucial aspects of land reform in India and the inter relationship between land reform and change in Agrarian structure. He has also historically dealt peasant nationalism in the Gandhian era.
The work has identified some methodological problems of analysing change of Agrarian structure under conditions of capitalist development and technological change. it further a highlights the important current issues of share cropping, Operation Barga, and agricultural labour.
This volume combines empirical material with theoretical insight and discusses how 'real' peasants live and act, what is their relative position in society and response to changing economic and political conditions, and how they are bringing about a change.
These essays are written by various scholars who are well known in their respective field. It is hoped that this volume will be of interest to social scientists, policy-makers and scholars who are researching in this broad area of Agrarian Structure.
