Land reforms and change in rural society

"Pathak, S.N."

Land reforms and change in rural society - Allahabad Chugh Publications 1987 - 268p.

This study aims to highlight the socio-economic changes which have occurred in the wake of land-reform measures introduced in India in the post-independence era. "Land for the farmer being the most precious of all the possessions", says Dr. Pathak, "the reform measures therein were bound to have their impact on the rural social organisation".

Since an overwhelming majority of the Indian population lives in the villages and is directly dependent on the land for its survival, the transformation of their socio-economic system alone can change the Indian society as a whole. The shifts which take place in the traditional organisation of agriculture should then rightly merit the attention of the sociologists, for thanks to them, various aspects of rural society have in more ways than one started showing signs of change today.
