Agriculture is essential to the lives of all of us. For some it is a way of life, for others a profession or a science, but for all it is the source of sustenance. It has no real parallel, in any sphere of human activity, in the extent to which it must on both physical environment and rely on human culture. It is at the same time a "natural" process and a human activity. This complex interaction presents anormous challenge in education an for development. The problem seems no less than adapting agriculture to a number of diverse social and physical environments in ways that can also serve the world's increasing food needs. And this can only be done through efficient management of agriculture as the very success or failure, may even the very survival of agriculture and rural development programmes depends on its management.
Further, any rural development progra mme or part of it (Agriculture) can not be seen as a separate entity of organisational development. Rural development progra mme must be seen in totality and as part of the organisational function or respon sibility. An organisation is a structure. made up of two or more people who refers to a total systems of relationships, arra ngements and procedures of which the structure is a part.
Keeping these in mind present author has viewed and exposed various interrelated aspects of management in agriculture and rural development in this publication high lighting basic management, new commu nication strategy transfer systems for higher productivity.
