The basic object of the present study is to describe and examine the process of persistence and change in the socio-economic, political and religious life of the people of Anjan. Culture is stable, yet is also dynamic and manifests continuous and constant change. 'Unity and Extensions', 'Great and Little Traditions' 'Universalization and Parochialization' are some of the concepts for the study of the civilization of village communities of Anjan. Anjan with its picturesque landscape is truly a beautiful village of Chotanagpur Plateau, very rich in flora and fauna.

Since the author has been to Anjan for a number of times at different intervals, he has collected with immense experiences a first hand information about the people, their culture, society, history, politics, religion, economics etc.
In addition to the introduction and conclusion, the book has five chapters. First chapter deals with the setting, the second and third deal with Social contours and Economy of the village. In chapters four and five, Persistence and Change, Religion and Festivals have been comprehensively attempted.
