The need for coordination and evolving a uniform approach to the common problems faced by the Public Sector Enterprises has been incresingly felt since the administrative control of the enterprises rests with the varioius MInisters Departments. Based on the decisions of the Govenment the Bureau of Public Enterprises issues instructions and guidelines from time to time various aspects of management of public sector enterprises.
While the managements of Public enterprises enjoy a large measure of autonomy and wide operational powers, they are accountable to the Parliament and government. Among the other ways, the Parliament oversees the performance of the enterprises through its Committee on Public Undertakings and takes up every year 7 or 8 undertaking of examination.
