520 _aThis study on Migration and Resettlement in India examines migration within a development context. Policies are suggested that reflect the interdependence of the rural and urban areas. Some important characteristics such as streams of migrants and their impact on settlement are discussed. The India experience in resettlement describes (1) rehabilita tion camps for people displaced by natural calamities and (2) re settlement programs where colonies or townships are constructed. Thus policies on urban and rural resettlement are interdependent. Examination of the impact of programs to develop the rural areas like green revolution reveals negative as well as positive consequences when such programmes are related to migration.
