| 520 | _aThe State Level Public Enterprises (SLPEs) form the backbone of the economy of the states in India. They are the lifeline of people residing in the states. Their effective working is of crucial significance to both the state governments and the residents in such states. The role of these enterprises assumes a greater importance in the small states in view of investments, employment, profitability, and research and development. Sikkim holds strategic significance in the NorthEast. The other states in the NorthEast draw considerable inspiration from Sikkim. However, in so far as the functioning of the SLPEs is concerned, Sikkim is not above board. These enterprises present an unhealthy scenario in terms of their operational and financial functioning. The present volume is an attempt to conceptualize the theory of the SLPEs’ restructuring and apply it to the functioning of the SLPEs in Sikkim with a view to find out the suitability of these enterprises for the retention, closure and privatization. | ||
