520 _aAdam Smith: Critical Assessments presents a detailed overview of the analytic writings on Adam Smith from contemporary sources through to the present day. All aspects of Smith's writings are considered from both their theoretical and practical applications. The volumes are arranged thematically under the following headings: 1. The Life of Adam Smith and Perspectives on his Thought 2. Smith's Wealth of Nations 3. Smithian Economic Analysis To enable the reader to review the chronological order of the articles, a table is presented in the Appendix at the end of the General Commentary. To put into thematic and chronological sequence some 150 previously published articles on the work of Adam Smith has not previously been undertaken, and it is considered that the volumes will give students of the history of ideas and contemporary economists immediate access to the intellectual processes of an economist whose influence on the Western system is arguably second to none. In particular, the reader will be better placed to appreciate both the development and complexity of the literature concerning Adam Smith. The volumes do not attempt to reproduce all the articles written on Adam Smith. However, the articles have been carefully selected so as to reproduce (1) all the articles considered seminal by the profession, (2) articles most useful to historians of thought, contemporary economists and policy-makers. (3) those articles which, in total, yield a comprehensive account of Adam Smith's life, thoughts and economics and (4) only those articles from professional journals, published in English. Although no chapters in books or papers which appear only in books have been reproduced, articles that provide a review of the most popular and notable books have been selected for reproduction.
