520 _aThe Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID) has built an extensive On-Line Index (OLI) of important Indian Social Science Journals and the same is available on the INTERNET in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC). However, realising that INTERNET facilities are not yet very widely available especially to scholars in remote places in India, it was decided to bring out the social scienco Indexes of important academic journals in print format. Volume One of the ISID Index Senes devoted to the Economic and Political Weekly (EPW) covering the period 1966-1996 was released in the last week of December, 1996. The l the First Volume. Index now has been updated to include 1997 by bringing out a Supplement to The present publication Volume Two of the Index series covers sixteen Economic Journals since the beginning of each one of them. It was initially planned to bring this out in two volumes, however, for convenience of scholars, it was decided to bring it out as a combined Index volume for these sixteen journals. The Indian Economic Association Trust for Research and Development, co-sponsor of the first volume, functioning since 1987, has as one of its objectives, the promotion of excellence in the field of research in economics in India. In this background, the task of bringing out the printed Volumes of OLI, of important Indian Economic Joumals, shall go a long. way in realising the objectives of the Trust. The present Volume has three parts. Part One contains chronological listing of the of articles in the sixteen economic journals. Listing of Book Reviews, Notes etc., which are part of ISID's database and are accessible on the computer have not been included in the this Index. for reasons of bulk. Parts Two and Three comprise the Author and Subject Indexes to title entries respectively. The Subject Index is broadly based on key words in the article titles. We have generally refrained from standardising authors' names. The ISID maintains the updated version of the Index of 55 social science journals. Besides its access through the INTERNET individual scholars can avail of the Index Service through surface and e-mail. The NIC has provided multiple linkages to the ISID for the benefit of the academic world. During 1997 the NIC has linked the ISID through a high speed VSAT. We hope to offer, starting with mid-1998, full text service of our Working Papers for the benefit of scholars, teachers, policy makers and journalists. The NIC hopes to upgrade the communication network at the ISID to help achieve higher speed and efficiency. Members of the Corporate Studies Group (CSG) at the Indian Institute of Public Administration initially translated the ideas of a user-friendly document search facility into a practical utility. After the ISID took over the functions of the CSG, the computer staff of the Institute has improved upon the original OLI software. In this effort Shri Bhupesh Garg and Shri Sudhir Aggarwal have played a major role. Shri Sunil Kumar Agarwal and Ms. Hardeep Kaur kept the OLI updated with periodic support from other colleagues. Shri K.R. Tripathi and Shri Rakesh Chandra Dandriyal deserve a special mention in this respect. Shri Umesh Kumar Singh and Mrs Usha Joshi prepared the final page format of this volume.
