520			_aIn 1990, the National Front government headed by V.P. Singh virtually opened a Pandora's box by extending reservation in government jobs to other backward castes'. In justification of its policy, it harked back to a forgotten, decade-old report on the sub ject produced by B.P. Mandal. The furies let loose by this political move led to the downfall of the V.P.
