520 _aTechnology has a Key role in rural management and develop ment. Only induction of appropriate technology can be conducive to productivity in quality and quantity and can result in additional econo mic benefit to the user. In addition the technology should be adap table by people who have limited educational background and com patible with human and material resources. Research and extension are dependent on each other and are important equally. It has been observed that research results are reaped only by rich farmers. As a result of this weaker sections of the society are deprived of research benefits. In order to provide the be nefits of new technology to weaker sections of the society to uplift their Socio-economic conditions by the persevering visits of the interdiscip linary team of scientists to intro duce innovations relevant to their socio-economic conditions, the transler of technology programme (Lab to Land) was initiated by the ICAR during 1979-80. As a result of this first time in the history of agricultural development, the team of Scientists have come out of their towers with a commitment to serve rural poors for their upliitment. This programme paved the way for closer ties between scientific and farming community. This book focuses on the genesis, objectives, strategies, achievements and cons traints of this programme. This book is based on the scienti fic and systematic investigation which should serve as beacon light to all concerned with this massive programme for the removal of poverty from rural areas.
