520 _aTraditionally, in national planning, major emphasis has been given on the modelling and analysis of inputs and outputs. The third major interface, i.e. waste, has not received the attention it deserves. It is emphasized that a systems. approach to national planning should incorporate all the three factors, viz., input, output and waste, in an integrated manner. From the system's view point the term waste has been defined as any unnecessary input to, or any undesirable. output from the system. This book is a revised version of the author's Ph.D. thesis entitled, "Systems Modelling of Waste Management in National Planning" submitted to Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi. It aims at developing a systems approach to national planning by incorporating waste management (WM) aspects into it. The book is organised into ten chapters incorporating introduction to macro economic modelling, system concepts and waste management, review of litera ture on WM, survey of WM practices in India, concept of wastivity as a perfor mance measure with an illustration in energy sector, theory of economic growth based on wastivity concept, wastivity growth (W-G) simulation model, review of input-output model ling, basic framework of I-O-W (Input Output-Waste) model, systems modelling of multisectoral national economy inc luding WM sectors using physical system theory and goal programming, applica tion of large scale physical system theory to model WM in agriculture sector, integration of proposed models for long range planning and growth monitoring, waste monitoring systems, interfaces of WM, implementation strategies in WM and a summary of major findings and recommendations, The book will prove to be useful both to academicians and planners engaged in the modelling and analysis of economic systems.
