520 _aI had an occasion to read with great interest and curiosity the first book that Sri Tara Chandra Tripathi had written in Hindi on the Historical Geography of Uttarakhand. It was enough to gather from it that the author had put a great deal of efforts not only in studying the copper plates of historical importance but also went to the identified places, criss crossing the entire length and breadth of Uttarakhand. virtually without any funding or support. Now that he has revised the same book with great efforts and written it in English for wider audience is surely welcome and praiseworthy. He does not claim to be an archaeologist but as one can gather, he has amassed a great amount of geographical data that a number of archaeologists can keep themselves busy with, in visiting those sites with a view to gathering immensely useful information and material which may put Tripathi's research in better perspective in terms of archaeology.
