520			_aThe Art and Science of Politics', a collection of articles, is dedicated to Professor P.N. Masaldan as a symbolic acknowledge ment of his contribution to the advancement of the discipline of Political Science in India. Prof. Masaldan has been a constant source of inspiration, encouragement and guidance to the Department. Under his able leadership, the Department of Political Science in the University of Lucknow achieved a coveted place in the academic world. The idea to bring out a festschrft in honour of Professor Masaldan was prompted by our feelings of reverance and devotion to him. It is really heartening that this felicitation volume is being released on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of the University. The articles contained in the volume have been contributed by distinguished Political Scientists of India and abroad. They cover a wide spectrum of the discipline. Owing to paucity of time, we kept on handing over the articles to the press as and when we received them. Consequently, it could not be possible for us to arrange the articles on any rigid basis, like the theme of the papers or the relative seniority of the authors. We hope our esteemed contributors would not mind it. We do not find enough words to express our indebtedness to the contributors who very gladly joined us in honouring Prof. Masaldan by writing specially for this volume. We are also grateful to our colleagues who helped us in making this academic venture a success. Messers Print House (India), Lucknow deserve thanks for publish ing this book in record time. We take this opportunity to offer to Professor Masaldan our best wishes for a long and academically fruitful life.
