520 _aThis volume is the fourth in the series entitled "Data Base of Indian Economy" initiated by the eminent statistician, Dr C.R. Rao. Health Statistics in India is a neglected area of Social Statistics and there are large information gaps. In the case of Statistics on Education, there is a mass of routine collection of data, much of which is unimaginative and has not been put to any worthwhile use. The Indian Association for the Study of Population (IASP) and the Indian Econometric Society (TIES) organised a seminar to focus attention on these two neglected areas of Social Statistics at Bangalore in 1976, with institutional support from the Indian Council of Medical Research, Indian Statistical Institute, Institute of Economic Growth and the Institute for Social and Economic Change. This book brings together revised and edited versions of selected papers presented at this seminar and should prove valuable for students, research workers, planners and policy makers in the fields of Health and Education.
