520 _aThe author has been receiving more and more requests from various corners to write a meaningful book on rural economics of India. The present book is the outcome of such growing requests for which the author is extremely grateful to numerous sources viz. rural institutes, organisations, agricultural colleges, universities, banks, training colleges and institutes, voluntary social organisations, researches, etc. from which such requests come to him. The author also notes that there is a growing demand for a text book on rural economics from the large number of candidates who have been appearing in "Associate Examination (Part I)" of "The Indian Institute of Bankers" since 1982 with "Rural Economics" as one of their subjects. In the absence of a textbook on this subject according to the syllabus prescribed by The Indian Institute of Bankers, these candidates have been facing enormous difficulties to tackle this subject which needs perhaps, consultations and the study of various references related to a growing and complex subject like "Rural Economics" in order to perform better in the aforesaid examination.
