520			_aOver the past few decades the Asian continent has undergone enormous changes. Out of the ruins of colonial empires dozens of new independent states have risen, whose role in international politics and the world economy grows every year. In defending their right to a peaceful and independent life, the countries and peoples of Asia have lived through quite a few dramatic and often tragic events. Quite diverse factors of a historical, political, socio economic, cultural and psychological nature cross and interact in the international relations between the states of this multinational continent. Even today the Asian peoples are facing problems inherited by them from their recent and distant past, mainly from colonialism: unequal levels of economic development among the countries of the continent, the independent status of many in the system of the world capitalist economy, religious contradictions and ethnic diversities, territorial disputes, etc.
