520 _aSINCE this book was first published Mr. Anthony Eden has outlined his new scheme under which the Diplomatic, Consular and Commercial services are to be fused into one great Foreign Service. As a result, the detailed procedure outlined in Section III of Chapter IX no longer applies. he have retained the chapter as it stands, partly because the main principles therein advocated will remain unchanged, and partly because the procedure under the new scheme has not yet been drawn up or established. Those who desire to enter the new Foreign Service should obtain Command Paper 6420 of January 1943. This will show them the general outline of the new scheme. It will not, however, provide them with detailed instructions as to how any given candidate should apply for permission to take the examination. These instructions will not be available for some time in any precise form.
