520			_aUpon an mation extended by President Tite of Yugoslavis, President Abdel Nasser of the UAR and President Sukarno of Indonesia joined by Prime Minister Nehru of India, and co sponsored by the Government of Afghanistan, the Preparatory Meeting for the Conference of Non Aligned Countries was held in Cairo from 5th to 12th June, 1961, under the Chairmanship of Dr. Mahmoud Fawzy, Foreign Minister of the Government of the United Arab Republic. The Meeting was attended by delegations from the following countries Afghanistan, Burma, Cambodia, Ceylon, Cuba, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Mali, Morocco, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, United Arab Republic. Yemen, Yugoslavia and the Provisional Government of Algeria. Brazil was represented by an observer. 2. A general discussion in an atmosphere of friend ship and understanding on questions relating to the holding of the Conference of Heads of State or Government of Non-Aligned Countries took place. There was unanimous agreement on the necessity of holding such a conference. The participants were of the opinion that the area of non-alignment has been widened, and could be further widened in scope and influence, and thus become a fundamental factor in the preservation of international peace and security They were convinced of the positive results which could be accomplished by holding such a Conference in the interests of world peace, effective international cooperation and the realisation of the aspirations of millions of people for independence and a better and more prosperous future. They agreed that the Conference of Heads of State or Government of Non-Aligned Countries be held in Yugoslavia beginning on 1st September, 1961
