520			_aThe prosperity of the people in a country like India will greatly depend upon proper and scientific planning of investment patterns and deployment of manpower in different sectors of the economy. With this in view, statistical models have been formulated by establishing relationships between investment, employment and economic growth by using data of the government of India for the period, 1960-77. The models enable the investment patterns in various sectors of the national economy to be so organised so to as promote the potentiality of employment and provide useful guidelines for manpower planning at national level. To optimise the growth rate of gross national product, in sectors of the national economy, deploy ment of manpower in accordance with educational and occupational disciplines has been separately considered. Reliability of the proposed statistical models has been verified by using them for predicting economic growth and employment for particular periods of time. This publication is the first of its kind in India and it is hoped that it will be of great use to the manpower planners and research workers. The approach developed in the book should be applicable for studying similar problems in developing countries of the Third World.
