Making the first systematic study of this subject, Dr Gupta examines two key problems of developing nations Income Distribution and Employment Creation. He attempts a careful analysis of the extent to which employment opportunities can be expanded in India by reducing poverty and inequality, and presents a detailed analysis of the tax and expenditure policies of the Government of India with a view to providing an idea of the role which these policies can play in reducing poverty and inequality in the country. The book also explores the other ways by which the instrument of fiscal policy can make a significant and lasting contribution to the expansion of employment opportunities in India.
