520 | _aThis study is a systematic exploration of the patterns of industrialization at the regional level in India with a view to highlight structural features important both for understanding as well as planning purposes. It attempts to identify empirically the nature of inter-sectoral and inter-regional industrial linkages, by using two concepts of industrial clusters namely Empirical Spatial Clusters and Technology Clusters of Industries. Such clusters for the Indian economy, are defined by using disaggregated industry level data for each region and large inter-industry tables. The industrial base of each region of the Indian economy and changes in it are estimated and described. Finally, the policy implications of the study for construction of adequate industrial allocation models for the national economy, introducing the spatial constraint, are worked out. This study has been sponsored and financed by the Research Programmes Committee of the Planning Commission. | ||
