520 | _aAny Census operation is of colossal magnitude. The present one is no exception. The statistical details have been worked out in fuller measure than those in the earlier ones. The group of experts worked assiduously for preparing the correct codification and tabulation; and the presentation of the results has been compiled with maximum speed. This Census is based on the same concepts adopted in 1956 and covers almost all items on demography, housing conditions, educational status etc. We have, however, attempted to introduce the following special features: The household schedule was an additional form which was expected to elicit the following information, an analysis of which it is hoped will give us interest ing and instructive data of socio-economic importance: about inventories, reading habits of persons in the community, their hobbies and interests, active or passive involvement with cultural and other social institutions, the type of fuel used by families and percentage of savings to income. Questions relating to these were framed to help assess the standard of living, tastes and likings in various faculties and arts, of the members of the community. | ||
