520 _aThis book is intended to provide a framework for understanding all social problems. To illustrate this potential, I have tried to draw examples from as many kinds of social problems as possible. It is difficult, however, to distribute examples evenly across an array of social problems. I have drawn more heavily on the various civil-rights struggle, the black freedom movement, and the recent student revolts because these problems have been sufficiently prominent to produce a sizeable body of literature from which examples can be drawn. I hope, however, that both instructors and students will apply the framework to those issues they believe are social problems. The adequacy of the framework as an explanatory model can only be established by such repeated applicators'. I, of course, would welcome any feedback from students or pro tensors about the usefulness and limitations of the framework.
