Migration and resettlement - rural Urban policies - Manila Philippins Social Welfare and Devlopment Centre for Asia and Pacific 1980 - 65p.

Thailand country study. vol.III

Thailand's main migration streams are rural to rural and rural to metro polis. Ensuing problems as a result of migration are rapid growth of urban areas, especially that of Bangkok, and a high rate of deforestation in the rural areas.

While specific policies to deal with these problems exist, little is achieved in actual implementation due to lack of resources. Self-help government settlement programs are discussed where migrants are encouraged to settle in planned communities.

The need for research utilization in policy planning is illustrated through an example of a migration study identifying factors of regional development, family planning programs and job distribution as answers to the problem of migration.
