Impact of World bank credit on urban institutions

<br/><br/> The present study indicates that there can be little doubt that World Bank assisted urban projects have made a valuable <br/>contribution 1n the evolution of improved institutional and financial framework for urban management in the country. The <br/>setting up of new municipal urban development funds; project appraisal, monitoring and evaluation units; as well <br/>as, systematic devolution of fiscal resources and responsibilities to the local bodies, have introduced a substantial element of <br/>professionalism in the Bank-assisted urban projects. Secondly, these projects have introduced major changes in the area of <br/>financial management including improved commercial accountancy and tendering procedures. This study notes that the World Bank urban project have shown a high degree of sustainability through improved cost recovery and project applicability.<br/>
