Economics : the study of wealth

The "Art and Life" Series is a series of books adult readers who are indulging in the pleasure of self-improvement, or who wish to extend their appreciation of such things as pictures, architec ture, books, plays, and films. This volume is an entirely self-contained introduction to economics; the author's preface explains its scope in a few words. It can be read without reading the Gen eral Introduction at all, this being mainly con cerned with subjects commonly referred to as "the arts"; nevertheless, this Introduction recommends the study of economics very strongly to those whose primary interest is in the arts; the student of eco nomics, for his part, may also be interested to see the fundamental connection between the science (or is it the art?) of economics and the arts of writing, building, drawing, etc., which is insisted on therein.
