The Centre for Policy Research has sought to focus on a variety of urgent issues that merit attention. The emerging water crisis, the environmental impacts of development; alternative courses of action or inaction and their outcomes in terms of poverty alleviation, equity and a better quality of life for the people, including India's large and growing tribal population. These are all appropriately on the national agenda. In any complex situation nothing is exclusively black or white. Yet a balance must be struck and a reasonable via media found without undue delay.
