Barefoot revolution : a report to the club of Rome - London Intermediate Technology 1988 - 245 p.

The Barefoot Revolution calls for a redirection of the economic strategy of the last twenty years. It identifies and measures the impact of an alternative approach through small-scale development projects run by non-governmental organizations. The results of surveys of 93 projects, carried out by six teams of researchers in nineteen countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia are combined with a documentary study of a further 277 projects to form the basis of the book. The team reports are supplemented and brought alive by the testimonies of the villagers themselves, concerning their present conditions. The ultimate aim is to offer a valid development alternative for the Third World and provide some pragmatic answers to the urgent needs of the world's two billion rural dwellers.
