Eminent personalities who have carved out a nitche in the field of law, who preceeded me in delivering Anundoram Barooah memorial lectures caused a kind of terpidation in accepting the honour to deliver this Fifth series lectures. Coupled with this was my own hesitation generated by the multi-faceted personality of the genius of Shri Barooah who moved like a colossus by the turn of Nineteenth century whether adequate tributes would be paid to him in the form of lectures on subjects nearer to his heart and of considerable contemporary importance.
