The importance of consumer demand in the functioning and growth of an economy can hardly be overemphasised because its analysis is very useful to the policy-makers not only to assess the prevailing situation but also to gauze the future consumption needs of the economy. The present study provides an indepth analysis of comsumer demand and its projections at the state as well as region (rural-urban) levels in India. The study is, namely, punjab and Gujarat. The detailed and exhaustive analysis of the structure and pattern of consumer expenditure on twelve important items like foodgrains, milk and milk and products, sugar, clothing durable goods.
