This is Part Two of the Annual Regis ter of Indian Political Parties 1989 which covers the period from July to December 1989 The period is momen tous in the sense that it witnessed the historic General Elections to the ninth Lok Sabha and the consequent fall of Congress Government at the Centre and in several States.
In the most populous state of UP as also in Haryana and Sikkim non Congress (1) governments were installed. However in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujrat, Karnataka, Orissa and Andhra Congress (1) governments were formed. Several states including Jammu and Kashmir, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Goa had new Governors.
The period is also important because it witnessed an unprecedent event of more than a hundred members. of Lok Sabha belonging to major Opposition parties resigning en masse from the Lok Sabha on the Bofors Gun issue in the month of July 1989.
