Land utilization and urbanization : The rural urban fringe. - New Delhi Deep & Deep. 1991 - 220 p.

In the settlement continuum, there is no point where urbanity ends and rurality begins. Urbanity fades away gradually and rurality overtakes it. This means that the dichotomy is more a fancy than a reality. The rural-urban dichotomy is anachronous and pragmatic. In the real world situations, there exists a fickle sub-urban transition zone which in most cases surrounds the town. As an urban centre sprawls or explodes the transitional band goes on expanding simultaneously. This third entity known as the rural-urban fringe is a normative reality of the settlement. The present study intends to examine the various aspects the fringe. It purports to portray the characteristics of land utilization and urbanization in the fringe.
